This is typically managed by the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP).

Why Was I Asked for Fingerprints?
Receiving a request for fingerprints does not mean you are suspected of a crime. It is usually a result of a "Name and Date of Birth Match."
The RCMP national database searches based on basic details. If your name and birth date are similar to anyone in the system who has a record (even a pardoned offense), the system flags it. Since names are not unique, the only way to prove you are not that person is through your unique biometric fingerprints.
The "Letter" is Key
If the Criminal Records Review Program (CRRP) or your School District asks for fingerprints, they will provide you with a specific request letter or form. You must bring this letter to your appointment. It contains the specific Case Number or ORI code needed to link your prints to your application.
