Digital vs. Ink Fingerprinting

Which method is right for your application?

Choosing between digital and ink fingerprinting isn't usually a matter of preference—it depends entirely on who is asking for your fingerprints. Here is the definitive guide for applicants in Surrey and Vancouver.

1. Digital Fingerprinting (LiveScan)

Best For: Canadian Applications

This is the modern standard. Your hands are scanned electronically, and the file is sent securely to the RCMP via a private network.

  • Citizenship & Immigration Canada (CIC)
  • Federal Government Employment
  • Vulnerable Sector Checks (in Canada)
  • Pardons / Record Suspensions

2. Ink & Paper Fingerprinting

Best For: International Applications

This is the traditional method using black ink on a standard C-216C form (or FBI card). It is physical and is given to you to mail out.

  • FBI Background Checks (USA)
  • Foreign Police Certificates (e.g., Mexico, Philippines)
  • Foreign Work Visas or Travel Visas
